Coffeehouse

Be welcome at our coffeehouse where we serve our homemade ice cream, but also coffee, hot chocolate, waffles and more. You can also find typical Icelandic dairy products like skyr, salad cheese and mysa for sale here.

Our flavours

All ice cream are made in our own dairy kitchen. Guðrún, our ice cream princess, loves to play around with different flavors. That’s why we never have the same flavors available everyday.

Some flavors like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry will be available nearly everyday. We encourage our guests to be adventurous and try new flavours.

The best view ever

This is up for debate, but in our opinion we offer the best view ever from our coffeehouse. Look through the windows and enjoy a view into our cow stable while tasting your ice cream. It doesn’t get any more farmish than this!

From the Farm

Guðrún doesn’t just produce ice cream in her dairy kitchen. She also makes Icelandic skyr, salad cheese and mysa (whey). These items are available in our coffeehouse for you to taste. Fresh from the farm!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you use your own milk?

Yes and no. Raw milk has to be pasteurized by Icelandic law. Our milk gets collected by a third party who then pasteurizes it. We get our milk back from this party, but the milk is mixed with the milk from other farms. It’s likely that there’s some of our own milk in there. One thing is certain: all milk is coming from Icelandic cows.

Do you have ice cream or gelato?

We have gelato. Guðrún uses more cream than milk to produce the ice cream, resulting in a higher fat content. This also makes the gelato ice cream a bit more denser. A higher fat content and denser texture leads to a slightly intense flavour.

How long have you been producing ice cream?

Since 2012, when we opened the Efstidalur ice cream bar and restaurant.

Is your ice cream gluten-free?

Ice cream is gluten-free, but we sometimes use products in certain flavors which contain gluten. Examples are Oreo or Dutch Stroopwafel flavors. Using these products gives us a small risk of contamination.

Do you produce lactose-free ice cream?

We do not produce any lactose-free ice cream in our dairy kitchen at Efstidalur. We do have lactose-free ice cream available in our freezer, but this is not made at our farm.

How about nut allergy?

We do not use any nuts in our ice cream. However, there is always a risk of contamination. Not only at our (dairy) kitchen, but also from imported flavours like Oreo for example. Feel free to inform our staff about your allergy.

Do I have to make a reservation to visit your ice cream bar?

There’s no need to make a reservation to visit our ice cream bar if you are a small group of people (1-10 people).
